It is the dream of many office workers to cut their commute and work closer to home.
This dream is set to become a reality with the opening of a smart-work hub at Oran Park in October.
Greenfields Development director Mark Perich said the hub, which would be in an office building under construction, would have room for about 100 people.
“Someone working in the city can hire space at a well-managed office, instead of at home, with the fastest internet speeds so they can work productively,” he said.”People can come and hire a desk for a day or two or full time.”
Mr Perich said the hub, to which the state government has contributed $370,000, would help to provide a better work life balance for people who would normally have to battle long commutes to offices outside of Macarthur.
He said small business people could also hire space in the hubs and work from their permanently.
Workplace management company CoActiv8 will manage the Oran Park centre. CoActiv8 principal Caroline McLaren said it was important people who moved to the Macarthur area for the lifestyle were able to enjoy it.
“[The hub] is in such a prime position, particularly because it is such a growth region,” she said.”In some ways we’re planning for the future.”
A study from the University of Technology, Sydney Institute for Sustainable Futures found using smart work hubs could cut at least 30 minutes a day from the commute of more than 23,000 workers living near Liverpool.
The study also found if just 6 per cent of those workers used a hub, it would save the public about $6.4 million a year.
